The Acquisition of Italian Stops by Igbo Speakers

This research explored the acquisition of Italian singleton stops by Igbo speakers. The voiceless and voiced stop phonemes /p t k/ /b d g/ are present in both languages. creates a perfect condition to check learning strategies implemented L2. theoretical framework taken up this study was Speech Learning Model. According approach, sounds L2 can be perceived learners as same, similar or new compared those their L1, depending on greater lesser acoustic perceptive distance established between them. A spectro-acoustic analysis achieved produced showed presence sound categories with different structure. In have undergone an important phonetic adaptation that makes them perceptually from what is native Italians.
